We ain’t been slack, everything marked, everything membered. That is our future. Why? Well let me quote once again G Orwell. The economy of many countries was allowed to stagnate, land went out of cultivation, capital equipment was not added to, great blocks of the population were prevented from working and kept half alive by State charity. But this, too, entailed military weakness, and since the privations it inflicted were obviously unnecessary, it made opposition inevitable. The problem was how to keep the wheels of industry turning without increasing the real wealth of the world. Goods must be produced but they must not be distributed. And in practice the only way of achieving this was by continuous war.
Our future has been lived again and again. And still we fall for the same tricks every time.
While I agree that there have been many people in the local community, and at the state and federal level as well, who have stepped up to engage in the civic process -- specifically by securing constitutional leadership at the local level -- I do think there has been a great apathy, intentionally induced, that has kept many Americans from actually engaging. If we were to get granule, it comes down to the number of people at local meetings, speaking for or against the various proposals, that really impacts how we live our lives. State level politics presents another layer of control over our lives, and there too we find bills we can comment on weekly. There are many ways to be engaged, but the reality is that most people are too busy or too distracted to care. It always comes down to a small group of people who step up and impact decisions that affect the entire community. Think local elections.
Those stuck in Orwell's hell, knew full well how quick local leaders might load you on a train.
Local civic engagement, and knowing your neighbors, is the preemptive solution to that problem.
That is the way a Moral community can evoke peaceful change. The way this has been countered is the two party system to start with and advancing to the point we’re the other side is not just wrong but evil. And we must do this for their own good. “ the experts all say”
I hope more families start paying attention and start to decrease the amount of government in our daily lives.
Keep up the good work Luke. Spread the hand of peace. The other hand is ready if it’s slapped away.
